Texas Governor Greg Abbott reversed course on shutting down six ports of entry from Mexico, accusing the Biden administration of having ‘flip-flopped’ on a strategy to help with the border crisis.

Abbott, responding to a flood of thousands of Haitian migrants gathering under the international bridge in Del Rio, announced that he had directed state troopers and the Texas National Guard “to shut down six points of entry along the southern border.”

The Republican governor made the move to help stem the tide of migrants in the region, saying it was at the behest of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

CBP denied that they had any plans to shut down the ports of entry, however.

That prompted Abbott to pull back on the move and accuse the White House of reversing course.

“Six hours after U.S. Customs and Border Protection requested help from Texas to close ports of entry and secure the border, the Biden Administration has now flip-flopped to a different strategy that abandons border security and instead makes it easier for people to cross illegally and for cartels to exploit the border,” Abbott’s office said in a statement.

The governor accused Biden of “handling the border crisis as badly as the evacuation from Afghanistan.”

Biden’s Border Catastrophe

The accusations of Biden flip-flopping on a border strategy come as nearly 10,000 migrants have been documented camping out under the bridge in Del Rio.

Recent drone footage from a Fox News reporter showed the extent of the growing crisis.

The Biden administration responded by shutting down drone flights in the area so the surge of migrants at that location can temporarily not be documented.

Fox News this morning is reporting that there are another 10,000 migrants prepared to cross the border at this time.

The DHS has said they did not request assistance from Texas.

“The Department of Homeland Security is not seeking assistance from the State of Texas to shut down ports of entry,” a statement reads. “It would be a violation of federal law for the Texas National Guard to unilaterally do so.”

Cruz Hammers Biden

Meanwhile, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted President Biden and advised him on how to stop the flood of migrants at the border.

Standing in front of the bridge in Del Rio, Cruz described the border situation as a “maddening crisis” and a “manmade disaster.”

“When you have open borders, this is what you get,” the senator explained. “This is wrong. This is not humane. This is not compassionate. This is lawless, and it is inviting suffering. This needs to end.”

“It is the result of political decisions and Joe Biden could end this tomorrow by simply following the law and reinstating deportation flights back,” Cruz insisted.

“When you have open borders, this is what you get.”

Biden though doesn’t appear to be interested in tackling the border crisis, having not visited since his presidency began 240 days ago.

Instead, he’s off to a weekend retreat in Rehoboth, Delaware for a beach vacation.
