Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich went on Fox News on Tuesday to say that Democrats want to “drown traditional, classic Americans” by bringing people into the United States from other countries.

Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo asked Gingrich about a Wall Street Journal op-ed that stated that President Joe Biden needs to do more to control illegal immigration at the border if he’s serious about stopping COVID-19, according to Mediaite. Bartiromo claimed that illegal immigrants “want to get apprehended” since it means they’ll get to stay in America, at which time Gingrich responded by saying that “they didn’t come all the way across Mexico for purpose of visiting for two days.”

“They want to be in America, and I think what is hard for most of us to accept is that the anti-American Left would love to drown traditional, classic Americans with as many people as they can who know nothing of American history, nothing of American tradition, nothing of the rule of law,” he said. “When you go and you look at the radical left, this is their ideal model is to get rid of the rest of us because we believe in George Washington, we believe in the Constitution.”

In another Fox News appearance on Tuesday, Gingrich said that Republicans got “suckered” by Democrats on the infrastructure bill.

“I think some of the Republicans tend to take a short-term win and forget the larger game. So they feel good, they’ve been bipartisan. They’re getting something done,” he told host Laura Ingraham. “They have no idea what’s in the bill and they have no veto over what’s in the bill. And so they’re going to get a bill that’s dramatically worse than anything they agreed to. They’re going to have no ability to change it and it’s going to be a disaster.”

“There’s a wing of the Republican Party which historically …. it’s a wing which says you’ve always got to find a way to be responsible — and being responsible means selling out to the left,” Gingrich continued. “They got suckered on this. It’s the wrong thing to do. They ought to re-think it.”
