MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski typically fawns over former President Barack Obama just like everyone else at her network, but even she could not abide by his “unbecoming” sixtieth birthday bash this past weekend that she admitted sent a “terrible message.”
Obama was caught on camera dancing maskless with various celebrity guests at the massive Martha’s Vineyard event. Though he claimed to have “scaled back” the guest list, it appeared that there were still tons of maskless guests there.
New York Times reporter Annie Karni defended the party on “Morning Joe,” claiming that even a “significantly scaled back” crowd meant that there would be a large group congregating at the event.

“The people who got cut, according to my reporting, were a lot of the former administration officials who really credit themselves with building the legacy that allows Obama to enjoy the post-presidency popularity among this crowd and there were some raw feelings about what looked like a two-tier system,” Karni said, according to Fox News.
“But in the end, he had the big party, there were mixed feelings about whether that was a good look for Democrats, for Obama himself, and we learned that significantly scaled back did not mean a dinner party with 12 close friends and his family,” she added.
Brzezinski, however, was not having any of it.
“No. In fact, very high-level Democrats, folks in the White House even, were pretty upset about this,” Brzezinski said. “It’s sending a terrible message that the party doesn’t need right now, for sure.”
Karni is the same reporter who raised eyebrows over the weekend when she defended hose who attended the party by saying that they were a “sophisticated, vaccinated” group. However, she also admitted that some celebrity attendees like Chrissy Teigen came with a “hair and makeup team” that added even more people to the already crowded group on the ritzy island.
Karni also said that while some local residents were upset by the party, others felt that the backlash to it was overblown. We would guess that those in the latter group were Obama-obsessed Democrats.
