On Wednesday, Anti-Trump Congresswoman Liz Cheney said her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, is “deeply troubled” about the current state of the Republican Party.

It’s an interesting comment from someone who oversaw the total implosion of the Republican Party, beginning with massive losses in the 2006 midterms and Barack Obama’s landslide victory in 2008.

Cheney made her remarks during an event hosted by the Aspen Institute, as reported by The Hill.

Liz Cheney: ‘My Dad Is Deeply Troubled About Where Our Party Is’

“My dad is deeply troubled about where our party is, deeply troubled about where the country is,” Mrs. Cheney said.

Cheney said her father has been a “tremendous source of advice and guidance and wisdom for me.”

Rep. Cheney has been a top Republican critic of former President Donald Trump, particularly around his foreign policy and his claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Cheney loudly rejected Trump’s claims that the 2020 election outcome was influenced by fraud. Her constant criticism of Trump eventually led to the House GOP caucus ousting her from her conference chair position.

Cheney was one of only ten House GOP members to vote to impeach Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection before the Capitol riot.

She now joins GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger serving on the select committee investigation on the Capitol riot, with both Cheney and Kinzinger being nominated for their committee positions by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

What Mrs. Cheney does not mention, ever, in her criticisms of Trump, is that her father served in one of the most disastrous Republican administrations in modern history, if only for the failed Iraq War alone.

During the 2016 election, Trump was an outlier in loudly and repeatedly denouncing the neoconservative “forever war” foreign policies that were dominant in the GOP.

As then-candidate Trump said during a Republican presidential primary debate in South Carolina in February 2016, “Frankly I think the son, being loyal to the father, I think he really wanted to go into Iraq, even if it wasn’t the right thing to do.”

“He suggested the invasion was the basis of the current international problems from Europe to the Middle East,” Trump said.

Trump then declared, “It started ISIS, it started Libya, it started Syria.”

“Everything that’s happening started with us stupidly going into the war in Iraq….and people talk about me with the button,” Trump continued. “I’m the one that doesn’t want to do this, okay?”

Trump then went for the jugular, claiming the Bush administration deliberately misled the Americans in the run-up to war In Iraq.

“They lied,” Trump said flatly. “They said there were weapons of mass destruction, there were none. And they knew there were none.”

“There were no weapons of mass destruction,” Trump repeated.

Today, most polls show that a majority of Americans, including most military veterans, think the U.S. war in Iraq was a mistake.

Both Dick and Liz Cheney still defend the Iraq War.

Its’ no surprise then, that Liz Cheney repeatedly worked with Democrats to foil Trump’s attempts to withdraw America from the 20-year-long war in Afghanistan.
