UFC star Jorge Masvidal referred to Colin Kaepernick as a “coward” on social media over the weekend, causing quite the stir.

Masvidal used his Instagram Stories to remark on a Turning Point USA post. Kaepernick was photographed in 2016 wearing a Fidel Castro jersey next to a photo of the Cuban protests, saying “Know ur history and facts cowards like this fool should be sent to live in Cuba see what they say after a day there.”

Kaepernick, America’s most famous failed quarterback and social justice activist, was criticized at the time for wearing the shirt, which he claims was to support Castro’s vision for education and healthcare.

Masvidal used the opportunity to talk about his family’s experience of fleeing the Cuban dictatorship, one he called  a “death machine.”

a “death machine.” “My father escaped Cuba when he was 14 years old…And I’ve only heard the horror stories since I could process thoughts of how s— this communist regime, killing machine is. So I just want to shed some light on Cuba – big SOS signal for them,” said Masvidal.

He also urged the rest of the world to support Cuba. He feels that it is everyone’s responsibility to spread the news about “these crooked administrations.”

Masvidal, who has a 35-15 career record, most recently battled UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but lost in the second round after being knocked out.
