Former President Donald Trump spoke out on Saturday night during a rally in Florida to accuse Democrats of spreading “disinformation” that Republicans defunded the police.

“So now they [Democrats] are getting killed by defund police, which they are doing by the way,” Trump said. “But they are getting absolutely killed.”

“There’s a word [called] ‘disinformation,’” Trump continued. “If you say it enough, and keep saying it, just keep saying it, they [people] will start to believe it. We can’t let that happen. Because now they are saying ‘it was the Republicans’ fault.’ It’s disinformation. They say it again and again and again and after months and months of hearing, people begin to believe the Democrats’ claim.”

Despite spending much of the past year calling for police to be defunded, Democrats are now trying to distance themselves from that mantra as crime is spiking all over the country.

“And I will note that while the President ran on and won the most votes of any candidate in history on a platform of boosting funding for law enforcement after Republicans spent decades trying to cut the COPS program — which, again, is public record; we don’t need to under- — undervalue the intelligence of the American people — the President ran on increasing that funding. It’s in his budget,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said earlier this week, according to Mediaite.

“In President Trump’s budget, he significantly cut that. So that’s a change,” she added. “And the American Rescue Plan had a great deal of funding for local and state authorities, something that can support funding for local police in communities across the country, and something many have used. It doesn’t require me telling you names of individuals who oppose the American Rescue Plan. Every Republican opposed the American Rescue Plan, and I don’t have time to read out all their names today.”

Any American with half a brain should be able to see that Republicans are the ones defending the police, and Democrats are the ones out to defund them.
