Since the Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021, Democrats, the media, and the liberal left have used any chance they get to compare what happened that day to terrorist attacks on September 11th. It doesn’t matter that at the Capitol Hill riot, only one person lost their life and it was a military veteran who wasn’t even carrying a weapon. Not to mention, thousands of people died when cowardly terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Centers. Still, the left doesn’t operate in a world of facts as they continue to compare the two. And, as you can imagine, survivors and family members of lost ones from 9/11 are here to give the left and media a refresher between the two events.

Before we get into what they said, here are just a couple of Democrats who compared the two events. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once called for a “9/11” style commission to investigate the events of January 6th. ABC analyst Matthew Dowd said the riot was “worse than 9/11.” Sadly, that wasn’t all he said, “To me, though there was less loss of life on Jan. 6 – Jan. 6 was worse than 9/11 because it’s continued to rip our country apart and give permission for people to pursue autocratic means. I think we’re in the most perilous point in time since 1861 and the advent of the Civil War.”
While Dowd’s claims are outrageous, Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt actually agreed with what Dowd was saying. “He couldn’t be more right. The 1/6 attack for the future of the country was a profoundly more dangerous event than the 9/11 attacks. And in the end, the 1/6 attacks are likely to kill a lot more Americans than were killed in the 9/11 attacks, which will include the casualties of the wars that lasted 20 years following.”
For those that might be wondering, the Defense Department released information estimating that 2,442 troops have died in combat since 2001. That doesn’t include the 20,666 who have been wounded. There are also private security contractors who have been killed since 9/11, which is 3,800. But remember, the Capitol Hill riot was just as bad.
As for the people closest to 9/11, Retired New York Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches couldn’t believe people would be comparing the two. “Are they kidding me? 3,000 people died, plus we have more people dying from the air that was down there. They’re comparing it to score points politically. The families are really [angry]. When I talk to them, when they compare it to that, they find that outrageous.”

Debra Burlingame, who lost her brother during the 9/11 attacks, said, “It’s unfortunate because we’re coming up in the 20th anniversary. There are a lot of young people who have no living memory of 9/11 … When you have all these comparisons and analogies, which are inflated and ridiculous, it minimizes what actually happened, and that’s what’s happening here. It’s a deliberate ploy.”
