After police say he stripped naked on the grounds of a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse and then entered the chapel during Sunday services, a St. George man was charged Monday with nine crimes.

About 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Jeremy David Miller, 40, drove his Jeep onto the grounds of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meetinghouse at St. George, Utah. According to court records filed in 5th District Court, he stepped out of his car wearing only his underwear, then took it off and began pulling objects from the back of his Jeep and scattering them over the church grounds while naked.

According to the allegations, Miller entered the church, where around 100 people were present, and slammed a child’s car seat against a table, knocking the communion trays and water to the floor. Multiple complaints reporting the disturbance were received by dispatchers, who reported hearing the man ranting in the background of the conversations, “they were terrified there was about to be a shooting at the church,” one caller claimed.

According to authorities, the individual left before officers arrived and left tire traces on the lawn. He was quickly apprehended at a nearby residence he lives with his mother.

“Officers knocked on the door of the residence. Jeremy exited the house shouting and cursing at the officers,” According to the court filings, the man “continued to shout, curse and struggle against officers until handcuffs were applied,” after he was apprehended.

Miller was arrested and charged with five charges of child lewdness and one case of assault on a police officer, both class A misdemeanors; criminal mischief and failure to halt at the instruction of law enforcement, both class B misdemeanors; and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor.

Police responding to reports of a mental guy detained Miller early last month after he allegedly fought officers attempting to arrest him. According to police, he was setting off fireworks from his front porch, which caused sparks to fly into the house’s wooden awning and neighboring plants.

Miller’s mother told police she was concerned for her safety and that her son “suffers from multiple mental health issues and has been becoming worse for about two months,” according to charging records.

In one case, he was charged with third-degree felony criminal mischief, assault on a peace officer, a class A misdemeanor, and undeclared fireworks, a class B misdemeanor.

Miller was accused in a second case on June 14 with assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony, after hitting a sleeping fellow jail cellmate “because he was sick of cleaning up after all of them,” according to court filings.
