Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt inexplicably claimed the Capitol riot on January 6th was “profoundly more dangerous” than 9/11 and “likely to kill a lot more Americans.”

Schmidt made the comments during a virtual town hall to outline the group’s efforts to “defend democracy in 2022.”

“The 1/6 attack for the future of the country is a profoundly more dangerous event than the 9/11 attacks,” he claimed.

Schmidt went so far as to say the number of deaths that will stem from the protest will surpass the total from 9/11 and the wars that resulted from that terrorist attack.

“And in the end, the 1/6 attacks are likely to kill a lot more Americans than were killed in the 9/11 attacks which will include the casualties of the wars that lasted twenty years following it,” he claimed without evidence.

Lincoln Project Co-Founder Says 1/6 Worse Than 9/11

Schmidt, whose organization is composed of an island of misfit toys, rejects from a bygone establishment Republican Party so far adrift that they’re indiscernible from the far-left, may have jumped the shark on the January 6 to 9/11 comparisons.

Democrats have been equating the one-time protest to a multi-pronged terrorist attack by demanding a 9/11-style commission to investigate the incident at the Capitol.

Huffington Post senior White House correspondent S.V. Dáte actually argued that 1/6 was “1000 percent worse” than September 11th.

Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig told CNN that the Capitol protest was a “9/11 moment too, domestically.”

But it isn’t solely the left – it’s former Republicans and conservatives that were somehow triggered by the events that they find it on par with the worst terrorist attack on American soil in our nation’s history.

George Will, once one of the most respected conservative political pundits in America, told ABC News last month, “I’d like to see Jan. 6 burned into the American mind as firmly as 9/11.”

More Comparisons To 9/11

Matthew Dowd, a former campaign strategist for George W. Bush, really upped the ante this week by making a comparison similar to Schmidt’s.

“To me, although there was less loss of life on January 6, January 6 was worse than 9/11 because it’s continued to rip our country apart and give permission for people to pursue autocratic means,” Dowd alleged.

“So I think we’re in a much worse place than we have been,” he continued. “I think we’re in the most perilous point in time since 1861 in the advent of the Civil War.”

Schmidt’s comments, though, address the loss of life and actually make the wild claim that deaths from the Capitol protest will surpass 9/11 and every war in the Middle East since.

The 9/11 terror attack killed 2,977 people. According to a project out of Brown University, the United States lost nearly 15,000 American lives during the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. All told, that same report counts nearly 507,000 casualties from those wars.

A total of five people died in the Capitol protest, but only one was killed. Unarmed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by Capitol Police.
