It’s not shocking at this point that it’s happening, and it’s less shocking WHERE it’s happening, but officials in California are requiring state employees and all health-care workers to produce confirmation of Covid-19 vaccination.  Those who either cannot or will not will reportedly be tested weekly.

Officials said Monday that the new rule will take effect next month. According to the California Controller’s Office, there are at least 238,000 state employees in the system, though health officials in the nation’s most populous state couldn’t immediately provide an estimate of the size of the health-care workforce. Rather they just emphasized that they wanted to “lead by example.”

New York City also stated on Monday that by mid-September, all municipal employees, including teachers and police officers, will be required to acquire coronavirus vaccines or face weekly COVID-19 testing.

The new policy is set to debut as California is embroiled in a gubernatorial recall election.
