Fully Vaccinated Aide to Pelosi Tests Positive For COVID-19 After Meeting With Fleeing TX Representatives

Following a meeting last week with members of the Texas Legislature who fled the state for Washington, D.C., a spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

The unidentified staff member was properly vaccinated, according to Drew Hammill, a top assistant to Pelosi, and had no recent contact with the top California Democrat, though the speaker’s office is taking extra precautions as a result.

“Yesterday, a fully vaccinated senior spokesperson in the speaker’s press office tested positive for COVID after contact with members of the Texas state legislature last week,” Hammill said in a statement.

The Texas representatives who contracted COVID-19 had also been fully vaccinated, sparking a separate line of questioning and concerns over the efficacy of the vaccine.

Pelosi and her staff were seen wearing masks in the Capitol again on Tuesday. Many members have refused to wear masks in recent weeks, after the Capitol physician’s relaxation of mask regulations.

Pelosi, when asked about her covid-positive worker on Tuesday, said: “I’m sorry he has it. All the more reason for all of us to be vaccinated as he was. Wear a mask. Take every precaution.”

Separately, Axios originally reported that a White House official tested positive for coronavirus after attending the same Washington rooftop celebration as the Pelosi aide late Wednesday night. The staffer at the White House was also completely vaccinated and only had minor symptoms.

The internet was also ablaze this week after Vice President Kamala Harris had met with the Texas delegation. Reports later surfaced that Harris was at Walter Reed Medical on Sunday. Many speculated that the VEEP may have been under the weather from her interactions with the Texas delegation and/or contracted COVID, but the White House maintains that the visit was purely routine.
