Republican governors back them up.

FNC recently talked to DC tourists and residents and asked them if they wanted to wear COVID masks again. The majority do not.

“I would do it just so I could go outside, but I wouldn’t be happy about it. I mean, in my eyes, we had the vaccine, the delta variant is just like another strand of the flu at this point,” said DC resident TJ Dashner. “At some point we have to just move on.”

Kevin Hoffman, who was visiting the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall said, “Unless like the store made me, because obviously stores have the right to refuse service, but that’s the only way I’d wear it,” said Hoffman.

Jamil Escobar wants to wear a mask again. “For the safety, for everything, I think we should,” Escobar said. “Even the schools, I think kids sometimes, they should wear masks.” Gean Sotlo, from South Florida, said, when asked if he would mask-up again: “I don’t want to, no.”

Republican governors agreed with the likely majority of Americans. No more masks “Governor Abbott has been clear that the time for government mandating of masks is over — now is the time for personal responsibility,” a spokeswoman for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement . “Every Texan has the right to choose whether they will wear a mask, or have their children wear masks…Vaccines are the most effective defense against contracting COVID and becoming seriously ill, and we continue to urge all eligible Texans to get the vaccine. The COVID vaccine will always remain voluntary and never forced in Texas.”

Iowa governor, Republican Kim Reynolds, said the CDC guidance is not based on “common sense.”

“It isn’t based in science,” said Ron DeSantis spokeswoman Christina Pushaw. “There is no indication that areas with mask mandates have performed any better than areas without mask mandates. In fact, this policy could actually backfire.” Nebraska’s Republican Governor Pete Ricketts opined, “The CDC’s new guidance suggesting that vaccinated people wear masks indoors flies in the face of the public health goals that should guide the agency’s decision making,” Ricketts tweeted. The message is clear. No. More. Masks.
