During an interview on Univision on Thursday night, things got a little tense between Vice President Kamala Harris and anchor Ilia Calderón when the VP was asked when she might visit the southern border.

Since, after all, Harris was appointed by President Joe Biden to head up the immigration crisis, Calderón understandably did her duty as a journalist and asked Harris why she hasn’t visited the US-Mexico border yet.

It’s the second time in a week that Harris became defensive for being asked by a reporter why she hasn’t visited the border during the ongoing border crisis.

Vice President Harris Appears Irritated By Border Question

“I’ve said I’m going to the border,” Harris told the anchor. “And I-”

Calderón interrupted Harris, “When are you going to the border, Vice President?”

This seemed to frustrate Harris.

“I’m not finished,” the vice president shot back. Harris followed her remark with a familiar chuckle.

“I’ve said I’m going to the border,” Harris insisted. “And also if we are going to deal with the problems at the border, we have to deal with the problems that cause people to go to the border, to flee to the border.”

Harris continued, “So my first trip as vice president of the United States was to go – in terms of a foreign trip – to Guatemala, to be on the ground there to address and to be informed of the root causes why are the people of Guatemala leaving.”

Calderón pushed again, “Do you have a date for your trip to the border?”

“I will keep you posted,” Harris responded.

Twitter Has Fun With A Frustrated Harris

Of course, social media ate the exchange up.

Harris’ brief scold of the Univision anchor went viral on social media.

“There’s that harris charm,” allahpundit tweeted.

“Quite sexist-racist for Calderon to interrupt Harris like that,” mocked Washington Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross.

Another person noted on Twitter of the exchange, “Between her career in California and now on the national stage, there’s a consistent theme of her having thin skin and not liking to be challenged.”

Harris Snapped Earlier This Week At Similar Question

The Political Insider reported earlier this week on Harris’ defensive response to a similar question from NBC’s Lester Holt.

“At some point, you know, we are going to the border. We’ve been to the border,” Harris said. “So this whole, this whole, this whole thing about the border,” Fox News noted.

“We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border,” Harris repeated.

“You haven’t been to the border,” Holt reminded the vice president.

“And I haven’t been to Europe,” Harris replied, again with her trademark chuckle.

These questions will keep coming. So why doesn’t Kamala Harris just visit the border already?
