Police are still searching for the suspect who is described as a skinny black male with locks style hair. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. Chacon couldn’t say whether or not there was a danger to the public since the suspect was not in custody. However it appears that the shooting was isolated to the downtown area.

Six of the shooting victims were transported to the hospital in police vehicle, paramedics transported four victims and the remaining victims were transported in personal vehicles. Part of the reason police transported victims instead of paramedics was due to the chaotic scene which made it difficult for paramedics to get through the streets.
A large police presence remained in the area for most of the night.
“We were in line to a get into a bar on Sixth Street. Everything was totally fine. We just heard like nine — a bunch — of gunshots going off. Everyone got on the ground. We couldn’t even comprehend what was going on at the time” – Matt Perlstein, witness
The FBI will be assisting the Austin Police Department with the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call 911 or (512) 472-TIPS.
