THE BRONX, NY – Surveillance video has been released showing a brutal attack on a volunteer for Eric Adams, a mayoral candidate in New York.

The victim, an unidentified 42-year-old man, was seen on video around 2:30pm on Sunday, June 20 in a “scuffle” with his attacker. The camera shows the suspect stab the victim several times. He continues to stab the victim when he’s fallen to the ground against a vehicle on Morrison Street.

The suspect fled along with another man, and police later found an ice pick and knife at the scene of the stabbing.

While it’s unclear if the victim’s involvement with Adams’ campaign was a motivating factor in the attack, the victim is said to have over 50 arrests on his own record. Adams is reportedly encouraging the victim to cooperate with police in their investigation, but the victim is apprehensive.

Although he said he hasn’t had criminal involvement since 2017, the victim reportedly told Adams when he first applied to volunteer, “I have a long criminal record. I’ve done horrible things in my life. I’m homeless. I’ve had a real bad life.”

Adams told reporters, “We didn’t vet him, we didn’t ask what was your criminal record. He was a volunteer. He was not a staffer. He came of the streets and he wanted help.”

The victim was still listed as in stable condition in the hospital as of Monday.

Police are looking for the suspect and his accomplice.
