NBC host Lester Holt, in an interview with Kamala Harris, called the Vice President out for not visiting the border since being put in charge of handling the immigration crisis.

“Do you have any plans to visit the border?” Holt asked during an interview during Harris’ first international trip to Guatemala.

“At some point, you know, we are going to the border,” Harris said prior to insisting, “We’ve been to the border. So this whole thing about the border. We’ve been to the border. We’ve been to the border.”

Holt pushed back, “YOU haven’t been to the border.”

A defensive Vice President snapped, “And I haven’t been to Europe. And I mean, I don’t understand the point that you’re making.”

Kamala Harris Defends Not Visiting Border

There are two distinct issues with the Harris ‘I haven’t been to Europe either’ defense.

The first being that Europe and the United States do not share a border.

The second being that the Vice President has been put in charge of the immigration crisis, not a crisis in Europe.

In short, the immigration czar hasn’t done anything to stop the Biden southern border crisis, and defends it by saying she hasn’t done anything in regards to a non-existent problem in Europe either.

Harris has maintained that her focus is on addressing the underlying causes of illegal immigration.

Harris Dismisses A Visit To The Border As A ‘Grand Gesture’

Kamala Harris also dismissed the idea of traveling to the border as little more than a “grand gesture.”

“I came here to be here on the ground, to speak with the leader of this nation around what we can do in a way that is significant, is tangible and has real results,” she said of her visit to Guatemala.

“And I will continue to be focused on that kind of work as opposed to grand gestures.”

America’s number two leader believes it’s important to be “on the ground” in Guatemala, but not at the United States border?

Oddly enough, she didn’t view visits to the border when Donald Trump was President as simply a “grand gesture.”

In June of 2018, Harris not only visited the border but conducted a national television interview where she suggested it was time for radical changes to ICE.

One year later, she took a trip to an illegal immigrant detention center and held a press conference.

It wasn’t a grand gesture then, but now that she’s actually been placed in charge, it’s not necessary to personally view the humanitarian crisis she and President Biden have created.

Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, even as Harris was set to visit his country to find the “root causes” of the illegal immigration surge, offered up his own explanation.

“We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving,” Giammattei insisted.

“The message changed to: ‘We’re going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children,’” he said referencing Biden’s entry into the White House.

“The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.”

An Axios report reveals that the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country through the southern border has reached its highest level in over a decade – and there are still four months left in the fiscal year.

Several moves by President Biden have been to blame for the current border crisis, including:

  • The Biden Administration stopped sending unaccompanied children back to Central and South America, a policy that Barack Obama endorsed in 2014.
  • Biden ended the highly successful “Remain in Mexico” policy, creating an influx of migrants who believed the move meant the border was set to “reopen.”
  • Biden put restrictions on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), leading to illegal immigrant arrests dropping sharply even as illegal crossings were skyrocketing.
  • President Biden halted construction of the border wall, a move that an Arizona sheriff said weakens border security and benefits Mexican drug cartels.

“I want to emphasize that the goal of our work is to help Guatemalans find hope at home, at the same time I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making the dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border — do not come, do not come,” Harris implored.

Her administration’s actions say otherwise.
