Former President Donald Trump spoke out on Friday to congratulate Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) for winning a House Republican leadership position as she replaced Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who was ousted earlier this week.

“Congratulations to Elise Stefanik for her Big and Overwhelming victory!” Trump said in a statement.

Stefanik thanked Trump after the vote, describing him as a “critical part of our Republican team.”

“I support President Trump,” Stefanik said, according to The Week. “Voters support President Trump. He is an important voice in our Republican Party, and we look forward to working with him.”

Stefanik came out victorious in the secret ballot vote of 134-46 against her challenger Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX).

This came days after Cheney was ousted from her leadership position for voting to impeach Trump earlier this year. Trump was quick to celebrate after she was ousted by her fellow Republicans.

“Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” Trump said in a statement, according to Yahoo News. “She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our country. She is a talking point for Democrats, whether that means the border, the gas lines, inflation, or destroying our economy.”

“She is a warmonger whose family stupidly pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our great military, the worst decision in our country’s history,” Trump concluded. “I look forward to soon watching her as a paid contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”

Trump had urged Republicans to remove Cheney prior to them doing so.

“The Republicans in the House of Representatives have a great opportunity today to rid themselves of a poor leader, a major Democrat talking point, a warmonger, and a person with absolutely no personality or heart,” Trump said before the vote.

“As a representative of the Great State of Wyoming, Liz Cheney is bad for our Country and bad for herself. Almost everyone in the Republican Party, including 90% of Wyoming, looks forward to her ouster—and that includes me!” he added.
