OJ Simpson Defends Liz Cheney – Says She’s ‘Standing Up For The Truth’

OJ Simpson, the former NFL player and movie star who was controversially acquired in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, is speaking out this week to defend the embattled Republican House Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY).

Calls have grown for Republicans to remove Cheney from her leadership positions in the wake of her voting in favor of impeaching former President Donald Trump earlier this year. Since then, she’s repeatedly criticized Trump in public, which has led to many Republicans turning on her.

Simpson said in a new interview that while watching cable news in recent weeks, he “was not a fan of Liz Cheney.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m 50/50 on her politics, but I didn’t like her. And then I just realized recently, the reason I didn’t like her had to do with her father,” Simpson continued, adding that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, was “probably my least favorite politician of my adult life.”

Simpson then gave his thoughts about the Republican Party, saying, “it seemed that fact-based truth and honesty seem to be the enemy of many of these Republican politicians.”

Many would argue that it’s rich to hear Simpson of all people accusing others of having problems with truth and honesty, yet he continued to double down.

“Liz Cheney stands up for the truth. That’s gotten her a lot of heat,” he said. “She may lose her position in the party. She may even lose her career as a politician.”

In the end, Simpson praised Cheney for “standing up for the truth. That’s something her father wouldn’t have done.”

“Right now, I’m kind of a fan of Liz Cheney,” he concluded.

This comes after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) scheduled a vote for Wednesday on ousting Cheney as the Republican House Conference Chair, which is the number three leadership position in the party.

“Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it’s clear that we need to make a change,” McCarthy said in a statement, according to CBS News.

We’ll see if earning Simpson’s support does anything to save Cheney tomorrow.
