New reports are coming in stating that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is “checked out” and “already accepting her fate” as calls grow for her to be ousted as the Republican Conference Chair.

“House Republican sources tell us Cheney is ‘checked out’ and already accepting her fate. Unlike the last attempt to oust her in February, which she handily defeated, she’s not making calls or whipping,” reported Politico Playbook. “A source close to Cheney said she intends to lean on the argument that leaders should be able to say what they think is right without repercussions.”

This comes after Cheney attempted to defend herself in an op-ed published by The Washington Post in which she accused House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) of having a “changed… story” on Republican caucus politics. She then claimed that she is the true “conservative Republican.”

“I am a conservative Republican, and the most conservative of conservative values is reverence for the rule of law. Each of us swears an oath before God to uphold our Constitution,” Cheney argued.

Calls have grown for Cheney to be ousted from her leadership role ever since she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump earlier this year. She recently doubled down on this by saying “it’s important” that Trump not run again in 2024.

“I don’t think that that’s going to happen,” Cheney told the Washington Examiner. “And I think it’s important that it not happen, given what he did.”

While she also said that she “certainly would never vote for a Democrat” and she also stated that she does not think Trump “should be president again.”

Never one to take this kind of thing laying down, Trump fired back in a statement of his own.

“Liz Cheney is polling sooo low in Wyoming, and has sooo little support, even from the Wyoming Republican Party, that she is looking for a way out of her Congressional race. Based on all polling, there is no way she can win,” Trump said.

“She’ll either be yet another lobbyist or maybe embarrass her family by running for President, in order to save face,” he added. “This warmongering fool wants to stay in the Middle East and Afghanistan for another 19 years, but doesn’t consider the big picture—Russia and China!”
