Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his state will be providing police officers, firefighters, and paramedics with $1,000 bonuses.

DeSantis proudly announced that the bonus checks would be part of the state budget he intends to sign into law.

“Some want to defund the police. We’re funding the police and then some,” he announced at a press conference Wednesday.

The money, WESH Channel 2 reports, “comes from the federal rescue plan money passed by Congress.”

The money was provided by congressional Democrats, signed into law by the Democrat President, and will now go to police officers that many on the left would rather see defunded.

A thing of beauty, really.

DeSantis Wants To FUND The Police

DeSantis, widely suspected to be a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination if Donald Trump does not run, noted that while some people were able to work from home during the pandemic, first responders were not.

“The people that wear the uniform, they didn’t have that luxury,” he said.

“They were out there every single day, our police, our fire, our EMTs and they had to work more than they ever have, not just to deal with protecting us when the pandemic hit but then obviously how police were treated last year was a total disgrace and they had to put the uniform on.”

In his announcement, DeSantis referenced the ‘anti-riot’ bill he signed last month, legislation that enhances penalties for crimes committed during a riot.

The bill also makes it difficult for cities and counties to reduce funding for the police.

What Will He Do In 2024?

DeSantis’ popularity within the Republican Party has been on the rise in recent months as he has a solid record of accomplishments on his resume including:

  • The aforementioned anti-rioting law and first responders bonuses.
  • Fines for Big Tech companies if they ban elected officials from their platforms.
  • Banning vaccine passports.
  • Set to sign a new election law that includes restrictions on drop boxes and voting by mail.

The Hill writes that DeSantis is “widely considered the heir to Donald Trump and Republicans’ best hope to recapture the White House – assuming Trump does not run.”

Should Trump run, there is still a good chance DeSantis would still be in the spotlight in 2024.

Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, in an interview with the former President, asked if Trump would consider choosing DeSantis as his vice presidential nominee.

The former President indicated DeSantis is a “friend of mine.”

“A lot of people like that — you know, I’m just saying what I read and what you read — they love that ticket,” Trump replied. “But certainly, Ron would be considered. He’s a great guy.”

The law and order ticket.

In an interview with Breitbart DeSantis explained, “If you don’t stand up for law enforcement, you are going to have more crimes.”

It is a simple concept, not one Democrat seems capable of grasping.
