Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) went on CNN on Monday to claim that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) should have his leadership position challenged after the Capitol riot that took place on January 6.

Kinzinger said this while giving his thoughts on the growing calls to oust Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) from her position as the chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

“I don’t consider [McCarthy] to be speaking on behalf of the Republican Party anymore because he gave his voting card, gave his proxy card to Donald Trump,” Kinzinger said. “So, do I think it can be saved? Yeah. But I think that’s gonna happen by, frankly, me and my colleagues same we’re going to, you know, kind of like from the grassroots, changing this.”

“Look, it’s interesting because I actually thought the person that should have their leadership challenged was Kevin McCarthy after January 6, because that’s why this all happened,” he added. “And the freedom club and, you know, some of those folks went on offense against Liz.”

“It was probably a really brilliant strategic play because all of a sudden she’s on the defense,” he continued. “And to her credit and to others’ credit, I was considering, you know, having a vote of no confidence against Kevin and our feeling was, ‘No. … Let’s move on. You know, we’re going to vote to impeach the president. We need to move on.’ And then it was them that came back after Liz, not because Liz is any real threat to them except to make them feel uncomfortable.”

This comes days after we reported that Kinzinger attacked the Republican Party, comparing it to the Titanic.

“…I think what the reality is, is as a party, we have to have an internal look and a full accounting as to what led to January 6th. I mean, right now, it’s basically the- the Titanic,” he said. “We’re like, you know, in this in the middle of this slow sink, we have a band playing on the deck telling everybody it’s fine.”

“And meanwhile, as I’ve said, you know, Donald Trump’s running around trying to find women’s clothing and get on the first lifeboat,” Kinzinger continued. “And I think there’s a few of us that are just saying, guys, this is not good, not just for the future of the party, but this is not good for the future of this country.”
