Ever since the Democrats took control of Washington, they have attacked the Republicans and former President Trump for how they have enraged the country. Yet it is the Democrats’ very own voters who run rampant through the streets, destroying America’s history and crippling small businesses. It was shortly after the election that Black Lives Matter claimed they had solely secured victory for Biden and since then – not a single word denouncing their violent acts has been uttered by any Democrats. Now, given that Biden is back in hiding, one Republican frontrunner is taking a stance when it comes to violent protesters. 

Already a powerhouse in the Republican Party, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has not only proven he is a born leader with his handling of COVID-19, but he is now taking charge when it comes to violent protests. Introducing the “anti-riot” bill back in September, DeSantis has been an outspoken voice when it comes to people’s right to peaceful protests. And as of Thursday, the bill was approved by the Florida Senate by a vote of 23-17.

With the bill being passed, the Governor released a statement praising the Senate’s actions and how it will safeguard American’s basic rights. DeSantis said, “This legislation strikes the appropriate balance of safeguarding every Floridian’s constitutional right to peacefully assemble while ensuring that those who hide behind peaceful protest to cause violence in our communities will be punished. Further, this legislation ensures that no community in the state engages in defunding of their police.”

Often referred to as HB1, the bill would institute felony charges to so-called protesters who decide to destroy historical structures, memorials, and flags. But that’s not all, the bill would also hold local governments liable if they decide to interfere with law enforcement as they respond to riots.

But not everyone is thrilled about the new laws put in place to help protect protesters. According to Florida Sen. Daryl Rouson, who happens to be a Democrat, “This won’t stop anything, except those who are afraid. I’m not afraid. I just want to say to people, keep on knocking, keep on protesting, keep on rising in spite of an attempt to stifle voices.”

So while the Republicans are trying to protect the liberties of Americans, the Democrats are still urging for restlessness and violence although their President’s current narrative is “Unity”.
