Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he’d “love” to see Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib resign from Congress following remarks she made calling to abolish policing because it is “inherently racist.”

“She’s reckless,” Craig told Fox 2 Detroit of Tlaib (D-MN) this past weekend. “I’d love to see her resign. I’d throw her a goodbye party.”

“Who is she speaking for?” he continued. “When you talk about abolishing police, incarceration, when you talk about safe cities – what do you think the residents in Detroit want?”

“I know. I speak with them.”

Tlaib, part of the far-left  ‘Squad’ often pointed to as the future of the Democrat Party, made her comments following the police shooting of a 20-year-old black man, Daunte Wright, in Minnesota.

Detroit Police Chief: Tlaib Should Resign, I’ll Throw Her a Party

Wright, a 20-year-old black man who had an open warrant for his arrest related to an aggravated robbery attempt, according to court records, was shot by an officer who claimed she accidentally used her gun but meant to pull a taser.

“It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently [and] intentionally racist,” Tlaib tweeted last week.

“Daunte Wright was met with aggression [and] violence. I am done with those who condone government-funded murder,” she continued. “No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.”

Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sought to distance herself from the comments, perhaps recalling that cries to defund the police decimated the Democrat Party in the 2020 elections.

Chief Hammers Maxine Waters Too

Aside from saying he’d throw a party if Rashida Tlaib were to resign, Craig took aim at Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) for her irresponsible comments in which she encouraged protesters to “get more confrontational” and “stay in the street” if the jury fails to render a guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.

“I will not let someone like a Tlaib or a Maxine Waters paint our profession with a broad brush,” Craig said.

He added, “We support free speech, we support social justice, but are we encouraging – we make reckless statements like that – to create criminal behavior?”

Craig said that, had he made comments like Rashida Tlaib’s, he would have been forced to resign.

“Is she truly representing the people, or is she representing a fringe group?” he asked. “She does not speak for Black and Brown people in our city.”

Astonishingly, a spokesman for Tlaib labeled Craig’s comments “disappointing and unproductive.”

Denzel McCampbell told Fox News:

“At a time where report after report cites the city of Detroit’s harmful treatment of Black Lives Matter protesters – and the enormous waste of taxpayer money to lose embarrassingly in court after trying to intimidate them, the city’s use of discriminatory facial recognition technology, and the fact that people still do not feel safe despite spending $300 million per year on police – it’s disappointing and unproductive for Chief Craig to run to the cameras to call for Congresswoman Tlaib’s resignation. One would think Chief Craig has more important things to do.”

The Detroit Police Chief has criticized Tlaib in the past for comments trying to create racial rifts between police and the community.

During a tour of the department’s Real Time Crime Center in 2019, Tlaib told Craig that she believes Detroit police should hire blacks exclusively to run their facial recognition software because other races think they “all look the same.”

“Analysts need to be African-Americans, not people that are not,” she claimed. “It’s true, I think non-African-Americans think African-Americans all look the same!”

Craig, who is himself black, immediately dismissed her analysis, saying “I trust people who are trained, regardless of race, regardless of gender.”

He suggested Rashida Tlaib resign for those comments as well.

“If I had made the exact same comment, they would’ve been calling for my resignation and she would have been leading that charge,” the Chief added at that time. “That’s a fact.”
