Alberto Fernandez, Argentina’s President, has tested positive for the coronavirus after having received two doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine earlier this year. The diagnosis was confirmed by Fernandez’s doctor.

Fernandez has been self isolating after receiving a positive result from an antibody test.

“Fernandez is stable, asymptomatic and with indicators within normal ranges, Saavedra said. The president had taken a test after running a fever and suffering a headache yesterday.” – Dr. Federico Saavedra

Fernandez received the first dose of the vaccine in January at a public hospital in Buenos Aires. He received the second vaccine on February 11. At this time Fernandez is unsure how he got infected.

The Sputnik V vaccine is 91.6 percent effective against infections and 100 percent effective against severe cases according to the Russian Gamaleya Institute.

There have been other reports of issues with the COVID vaccine including one made by AstraZeneca that has been linked to rare reports of blood clots in the UK.
