The US Marine Corps is reporting that nearly 40% of their Marines are declining to receive COVID-19 vaccinations.

As of Thursday, approximately 75,500 Marines have been vaccinated, including those who have only received one shot.  Approximately 48,000 Marines have chosen to not receive the vaccine, for a total declination rate of 38.9%.

About another 100,000 Marines have not yet been offered the vaccination as of yet.

Numbers out of Camp Lejeune are even higher, with 57% of Marines declining the vaccine.

“We fully understand that widespread acceptance of the Covid-19 vaccine provides us with the best means to defeat the pandemic. The key to addressing the pandemic is building vaccine confidence,” Marine Corps spokeswoman Col. Kelly Frushour told CNN.

With the vaccine authorized as emergency use by the FDA, the military cannot make the vaccine mandatory, but a waiver from Biden could bypass that rule.  Predictably, seven Democrat members of Congress signed a letter sent to Biden asking him to issue a “waiver of informed consent” to require all U.S. military service members to get the vaccine.

The Democrat members of Congress included: Rep. James McGovern, Rep. Jimmy Panetta, Rep. Marilyn Strickland, Rep. Sara Jacobs, Rep. Marc Veasey, Rep. Cindy Axne and Rep. Jahana Hayes.
