Former President Donald Trump has made it known his plans to target Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski in the upcoming 2022 election, saying he will travel to Alaska to campaign against her.

In a statement to POLITICO on Saturday, Trump said: “I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski. She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”

Murkowski has held her senate seat since 2002 and was a constant critic of President Trump while he was in office. She was one of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict him in the second impeachment trial.

In last weeks CPAC speech, Trump named the names of those in the house and senate he is planning to support primary challengers against, and the list was long.

Trump’s political team has already began a polling operation on Murkowski in her home state. Current approval ratings in Alaska (polled before Murkowski voted to convict Trump) found Murkowski with a 43% favorable rating and Trump at 52% approval.

Donald Trump’s team is also starting polling against Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming, who is also a target in 2022.

Trump received 53% of the Alaskan vote in the 2020 election.
