A group of Democrats has announced the formation of ‘Ron Be Gone,’ a new political group “solely dedicated to taking on [Florida Governor] Ron DeSantis.”

A press release from the group tackles a wide range of topics on why DeSantis is allegedly not equipped to lead Florida – including his pandemic response and supposed association with “wealthy donors and special interests.”

But a video advertisement seems to suggest the root of ‘Ron Be Gone’s’ desire to oust DeSantis – his support of, and by, former President Donald Trump.

“What’s poor Ron going to do without his role model in the White House?” the ad asks.

“He thought hitching his wagon to the Trump train would take him places,” it continues. “But all he’s doing is failing Floridians, just like Trump failed Americans.”

DeSantis has seen his approval rating in recent months on the rise, and he is viewed favorably by 89 percent of Republicans and 59 percent of independents.

Trump won Florida by over 370,000 votes.

‘Ron Be Gone’ Looking to Oust Ron DeSantis

The Democrat-led ‘Ron Be Gone’ organization using his pandemic response as a means to oust Governor Ron DeSantis is a curious decision.

Especially in light of the fact that DeSantis has proven to have navigated the COVID-19 nightmare more effectively than many blue-state governors – including media darling Andrew Cuomo.

“We look around in other parts of our country and in too many places we see schools closed, businesses shuttered and lives destroyed,” DeSantis said during a speech at CPAC. “Florida lifted people up.”

“Florida got it right and the lockdown states got it wrong.”

Even the media has been forced to reassess their coverage of DeSantis during the pandemic.

Axios reports that Florida’s death rate due to the coronavirus is “better than some states with tighter restrictions.”

And the front page of the New York Times explores how Florida has long since returned to some level of normalcy while states like California and New York are still tightly locked down.

“Much of the state has a boomtown feel,” they write, “a sense of making up for months of lost time.”

“That debate about reopening schools? It came and went months ago. Children have been in classrooms since the fall.”

Still Supporting Trump

If you think efforts to tie DeSantis to Trump are going to cause him to drift away from the former President, ‘Ron be Gone’ is wrong.

DeSantis blasted the Biden administration for a growing border crisis which is leaving America on pace to encounter the most migrants overrunning the border in the last 20 years.

“Biden is going in the absolute wrong direction,” DeSantis said in an interview with Fox News host Jeanine Pirro. “Trump had it right at the border, Biden’s got it wrong.”

DeSantis currently sits at second in The Political Insider’s poll of who readers want to see as the Republican nominee in 2024. He trails only Donald Trump.
