Earlier this week, we reported that the golfing legend Tiger Woods had been involved in a serious car crash that left him requiring surgery. Now, an update about his current condition has come in.

In a statement obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Woods’ team said that the golfer is “recovering and in good spirits” after undergoing some follow up procedures.

“Tiger has moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and received follow-up procedures on his injuries this morning,” Woods’ team said. “The procedures were successful, and he is now recovering and in good spirits. Tiger and his family want to thank you all for the wonderful support and messages they have received over the past few days. We will not have any further updates at this time. Thank you for your continued privacy.”

This comes after a source said that Woods, 45, has a “long recovery ahead.”

“When he is healed enough, he will need other treatments, including physical therapy. But he is a fighter. If anyone can recover from this, it is him,” the source told People Magazine of Woods.

“He wore a seatbelt thankfully. Otherwise, he might not have made it,” the source added. “I’ve seen collisions that didn’t look as serious where the occupants were injured much more severely. I think that’s just a testament to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, airbags worked as intended.”

Anish Mahajan, MD, chief medical officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, said that Woods “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.”

“[Woods] is currently awake, responsive, and recovering in the hospital room,” he continued.

Another source said that Woods “doesn’t want his career to end like this,” adding, “So if there’s any way at all that he can continue playing golf, he will.”

“He expected 2021 to be the year of his comeback. Obviously, that’s not going to happen now. And that’s disappointing to him,” the insider continued. “This is a massive setback and he knows that it’s a massive setback but he’s overcome obstacles in the past and thinks he can do it again.”

Police are still investigating the crash, but they have said that they saw no signs that Woods was impaired in any way.
