Kamioner: Biden Iran Strike Was The Right Thing To Do…But

Republicans and conservatives must not be hypocrites.

It is a matter of publicly stated Iranian intention to injure American interests all over the world. And while the Biden administration is insane to crawl back to the table on the Iranian nuke deal, the administration was well justified in hitting the Iranians in Syria, as they had hit our troops in Iraq. Though the question presents itself: If they are targeting our forces in Iraq, how can we trust them to abide by a nuke deal with us?

Some would say the strike is a negotiating strategy. We want to appear strong before we get to the table. But it won’t matter. The Iranians hold this administration in low regard and one strike won’t change their minds.

This does not take away from the wisdom of the strike and also brings to the forefront the reflexive appeasement policies of the cowardly Left. For while senior House Republicans praised the move, Democrats from Bernie Sanders to AOC questioned it. And of course, geopolitical fools all over the world just moaned about “American bombs” falling on the innocent. Wrong.

These strikes are planned, sometimes too much, to spare collateral damage. In fact, there was to be two strikes but the second one was called off at the last minute because there were too many civilians in the area. If it was called off from DC that’s a bad LBJ-like sign, as generals on the ground, not politicians and bureaucrats in Washington, should make that call.

The criticism of this strike is indicative of a larger issue with American power. Some see the thug theocracy of Iran on the same moral plane as the United States. To them a bombing is a bombing, always wrong. These people, in the words of Winston Churchill, can’t tell the difference between the fire and the fire department.

One also wonders how those who clamor against actions like this would fare if the Iranians, unchallenged, would dominate the Persian Gulf and could cut off the Strait of Hormuz to Western commerce? Badly, I think. They would be the first complaining about high petrol prices, if there was any petrol to be had. So yes, keeping the mullahs in check is a good idea.

But if you realize you have to do that, then doesn’t that tell you something about the overall intentions of the Iranians? Are we to have another Yalta deal, where we sit down with aggressors and give them everything they want in exchange for nothing? Biden seems to be headed that way. So while Republicans and conservatives should not hypocritically slam the right thing to do just because it was done by the Biden administration, we should remain cognizant of the fact that Biden’s policy towards Iran has the potential of catastrophe. We should act and speak accordingly.
