Democrats Want To Strip Biden Of Nuclear Launch Authority

Do they know something we don't?

Since the beginning of the atomic and nuclear age in 1945, the sole power of launching an American strategic strike has been vested with the Commander-in-Chief. No one has seriously asked, even through the tumults of Watergate and various other controversies, that the president be stripped of that authority because in a situation that would call for the consideration of the use of nuclear weapons there would not be time enough to ask a committee. In fact, a submarine launched missile from an enemy ship off our shores would wipe DC off the face of the map in less than six minutes.

Thus, understanding the need for a decisive command authority, no one has ever asked for that national command authority to be limited…until now.

FNC: “About three dozen House Democrats have signed a letter asking President Biden to renounce his sole authority to launch nuclear weapons, according to reports. A promise from the president to give up his nuclear capabilities as commander in chief could take the same power away from future presidents.”

Do these Democrats, including the son of former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, know something about Joe Biden that we do not? Are they so worried about his competence in such a situation that they do not trust him as Commander-in-Chief?

“Vesting one person with this authority entails real risks. Past presidents have threatened to attack other countries with nuclear weapons or exhibited behavior that caused other officials to express concern about the president’s judgment.” Idiot. A past president has attacked another country, Japan, with such a type of weapon. “Other officials”? Who? And for what reason? Of course, that remains unexplained.

The letter goes on: “While any president would presumably consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no requirement to do so. The military is obligated to carry out the order if they assess it is legal under the laws of war. Under the current posture of U.S. nuclear forces, that attack would happen in minutes.” As it should, if the United States felt it had no choice because of an incoming enemy attack. This proposal says less about the war powers of a president than it does about the confidence fellow Democrats have in the judgment and competence of Joe Biden. Which brings up the question: Why did they support him for Commander-in-Chief in the first place?
