De Blasio Strikes Brave Blow For Freedom…By Closing Ice Rink?

It was a hit on Trump. It backfired.

When I was a kid in the mid 1960s my mom was one of those nice moms who worried about kids all over the world. So, when I was not eating my vegetables or whatnot she would say, “David, eat your peas. Kids in Africa are starving.” After hearing this one too many times, my dad gently said to her, “Tina, if David eats his peas, some kid in Africa does not rub his belly and go ‘yumm.’ ”

Such as it is with New York Marxist Mayor Bill De Blasio and Donald Trump. De Blasio thought he would stick it to Trump by closing down a couple of ice rinks the former president’s firm owns. That will have a disastrous effect on the Trump bottom line because The Donald’s entire fortune is based on the ice rink business, or so the geniuses around De Blasio must have reasoned.

But all the move did was further tick off hard pressed New Yorkers who have seen urban crime, blight, and PC nonsense skyrocket during the De Blasio regime. So on Monday the city’s chief communist had to humiliatingly climb down and reopen the rinks.

Now people are asking: Did the mayor use his office to target a private business owned by a political foe? If so, another dumb move by De Blasio in a series of many.

FNC: “Mayor Bill De Blasio admitted on Monday that New York City acted too briskly when it shuttered Trump-operated ice skating rinks — only to later change course. The city’s stunning policy reversal came after devastated skaters fumed over the weekend that they shouldn’t be kept off the ice due to the mayor’s beef with the Trump administration. Hizzoner had announced last month that he was nixing the city’s contracts with the Trump Organization, alleging then-President Trump had incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.”

“I think the action was taken a little faster than it should have been because there was not an alternative in place,” De Blasio said to press. “What happened here is two needs that both were important and weren’t balanced the way they could have been. From the beginning, it was quite clear – after the horrible events at the Capitol in DC – that this was no longer an acceptable situation and the city moved to sever all ties with the Trump Organization…I always wanted to make sure that we kept ice skating available for kids and families throughout the season. There should have been a different approach, honestly, to make sure that was done.”

So he tried to punish Trump by closing down an ice rink enjoyed by New Yorkers? Where is the cause and effect? Did Trump even notice? For his next move, the mayor will be eating all his peas.
