While the rest of America struggles with a crippling economy and COVID-19, it appears that President-elect Joe Biden and his administration are moving on to more pressing matters. Since the Capitol riots, President Trump has been banned from social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, leaving millions of followers in limbo. Now, Biden and his transition team are demanding that they inherit all of Trump’s lost followers.

That’s right, instead of trying to fix the economy and fight COVID-19, Biden is more worried about his social media presence than helping the American people. For months, Americans have struggled to put food on the table for their families, yet Biden seems to only care about starting a war with Twitter.

Being the new gatekeepers to Freedom of Speech, Twitter released a statement saying, “As Twitter will serve as both a venue for people to watch and talk about this political event, and play a key role in facilitating the transfer of official government communication channels, we want to be transparent and clear about what people should expect to see on the platform.”

During previous administrations, Twitter would archive the President’s tweets before transferring followers to the new President, but breaking from tradition, the platform will not transfer Trump’s @POTUS followers to Biden’s new account. This means, like any person that joins Twitter, Biden will have to gain his own followers the old fashion way – starting with zero. For those wondering, before Trump was banned from the site, he had amassed a staggering 33.3 million followers.

Given that the United States is divided more than ever, and the economy is on the brink of collapse, it’s only natural that Biden would make this his top priority. His digital director Rob Flaherty tweeted, “They’re bending themselves over backwards to break with the 2017 protocol they set on the transfer of accounts, and also breaking with every other social platform in providing the new administration a follower base.”

Flaherty went on to explain to his followers that other sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat all transferred Trump’s supporters to Biden without any problem, yet Twitter remains defiant.
