As Melania Trump left the White House for the last time on Wednesday, she told a small crowd of supporters that serving as First Lady was her “greatest honor.”

“Being your first lady was my greatest honor. Thank you for your love and support,” she said, according to Fox News. “You will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. God bless your families, and God bless this beautiful nation.”

President Donald Trump described his wife as a “woman of great grace and dignity,” and said she has been “so popular with the people.” Trump also said that serving as president was his greatest honor and that he will “be watching.”

“You are an amazing people,” he said. “This is a great, great country. I will always fight for you. I will be watching. I will be listening. And I will tell you the future of this country has never been better.”

Trump went on to say that he believes the Joe Biden administration will “have great success.”

“They have the foundation to do something very spectacular,” he said. “Goodbye, we love you. We will be back in some form. Have a good life. We will see you soon.”

Trump and his wife then boarded Air Force One to head to Trump’s private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, where he is planning to remain for the foreseeable future. This came days after Melania released a lengthy farewell video message to address the American people.

“The past four years have been unforgettable. As Donald and I conclude our time in the White House, I think of all the people I have taken home in my heart and their incredible stories of love, patriotism and determination,” she said.

Melania ended her message by reflecting on her Be Best campaign.
