On Thursday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany fled the press briefing podium as reporters shouted her down. McEnany first read a brief statement condemning the events that took place at the US Capital, then left without answering questions.

The press secretary said, “The violence we saw yesterday at our nation’s Capitol was appalling, reprehensible, and antithetical to the American way. We condemn it — the president and this administration — in the strongest possible terms. It is unacceptable. And those that broke the law, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

She argued that the people who stormed the federal building are a small part of Trump’s constituency and do not represent the majority of his base.

“What we saw yesterday was a group of violent rioters undermining the legitimate First Amendment rights of the many thousands who peacefully came to have their voices heard in our nation’s Capitol,” she said.

After about 90 seconds on the podium, she left–which set off a firestorm among the press corps. More than a dozen began shouting at McEnany.

ABC’s Jon Karl screamed, “But where is the president?!”

Playboy’s Brian Karem shouted, “The president spurred them on!”

Currently Democrats are trying to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office–even though there are fewer than two weeks left in his administration.
