The supplicants are lining up as of Wednesday noon, as European leaders realize the national security gravy train is rolling again.

France, with elective national security commitments across Africa and the Middle East, would love the US to pay the bills again and take on the heavy lifting. She might get her way, as Biden and his team are giving signals that America is looking for international projects to become involved in. Many will be of the PC variety. But others will be an effort to flex American muscle, whether the situation calls for it or not, around the world. Trump is out and so are his policies in regards to Europe. But then, that didn’t happen overnight.

FNC: “French President Emmanuel Macron hoped on Tuesday that U.S. President-elect Joe Biden will show a greater military commitment to fight against Islamic extremists in several theaters of conflict and especially in the Middle East. Macron, who made his New Year’s speech to the French military in Brest, in western France, said ‘I am certain that in the coming weeks, the new administration (Biden) will need to make key decisions that will mark a greater commitment and awareness in the fight against terrorism’ in Syria and Iraq. In his speech, Macron also suggested he is considering a partial troop pullout in Africa’s Sahel region, an ‘adjustment’ he presented as a consequence of successes achieved by French forces last year and an expected greater involvement of other European countries. Macron said he will make announcements at a summit next month in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena. The deployment of about 5,100 troops in five West African countries represent France’s largest military operation abroad.”

This is only one example of what to expect from foreign capitols as the Biden administration starts to make itself felt across the national security spectrum. The Biden administration’s team is composed of individuals who ironically have decried American power for decades. But when it was Obama-Biden, and now Biden-Harris, wielding the power, well, then, it’s just fine.

The dichotomy between the two impulses will be interesting to see play out. The anti-Americans who now hold the reigns of American global power. The irony is delicious, and very dangerous for the United States.
