On Friday, President-elect Joe Biden renewed his vow to “defeat” the National Rifle Association, a national gun rights group dedicated to protecting the rights of American gun owners.

Biden has long been an advocate for gun control. He takes credit for the two most far-reaching modern gun control laws – the 1993 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban.

Biden’s Strong Gun Control Stance

America’s gun owners have long been wary of liberal Democrats who have threatened to implement bans on various types of weapons, mainly what are referred to as “assault rifles.”

In an August 2019 interview with CNN’S Anderson Cooper, when asked about whether or not a Biden administration would be coming for the guns of citizens, Biden’s reply was, “Bingo! You are right if you have an assault weapon.”

In a tweet put out on Sunday by the NRA they warned America’s gun owners that Biden, “wants to ban semi-auto rifles, tax our guns/mags and more.”

They stated that Joe Biden knows the only thing standing in the way of dismantling the Second Amendment is the NRA.

They urged gun owners to be vigilant and stay engaged in the political and legislative process.

The Biden/Harris Stance On The Second Amendment

Joe Biden’s website lays out an extensive plan for guns and gun owners. It includes a ban on the manufacture and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Biden would also use executive authority to ban the importation of “assault weapons.”

Under new Biden-era gun laws, a “buy back” program would be instituted for “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” magazines.

Owners of “assault weapons” would have the option of participating in a buy back program to the federal government, or mandatory participation in a registry under the National Firearms Act.

Vice-President elect Kamala Harris is in agreement with the President-elect on gun control.

As a presidential candidate, Harris fully supported mandatory gun buybacks.

In an October 3 MSNBC Gun Control Forum, Harris stated, “I support a mandatory buyback program.”

“It’s got to be smart, we got to do it the right way. But there are 5 million (assault weapons) at least, some estimate as many as 10 million, and we are going to have to have smart public policy that’s about taking those off the streets, but doing it the right way.”

Biden Not An Expert On Self-Defense Or Use Of Force

As might be expected, gun owners and those in law enforcement have some conflicting thoughts on Joe Biden’s knowledge of guns and their use.

Biden famously gave his wife Jill the following advice if she felt threatened: “I said, ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house,'” Biden said.

One criminal defendant even used “I did what Joe Biden told me to do,” as a defense.

While universal gun safety rules are worded differently from one organization to another, gun owners are taught to always point the muzzle in a safe direction and always be aware of the target and what’s beyond it.

Biden’s thoughts on the use of firearms also extend to law enforcement.

During an ABC town hall back in October, Biden suggested police officers be trained to shoot suspects in the leg as a less lethal way to stop them and avoid fatalities.

Several law enforcement groups called the suggestion, “dangerous and ignorant.”

John Evans, president of the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association, stated that the statement by Biden was, “absolutely ridiculous” and, “incredibly ignorant.”

Evans went on to say, “The guy’s clueless. And I know he is just trying to appease his left-wing base but it is a really foolish statement.”
