You know the type. The secular aspects of Christmas like Rudolph, Santa, and the Grinch, they’re all fine. But mention one word about Jesus Christ and you’re a horrible fascist trying to lead a crusade to convert the infidel.

We’re not talking of people not of the Christian faith. Their right to worship as they see fit is guaranteed by the Constitution and should be celebrated by all Americans.

We’re talking about the buttinskis, the hall monitors, the PC Thought Police who think one mention of the general reason of the holiday constitutes an outrage that must be redressed.

But shorn of its spiritual nature, what is Christmas? Is it the Roman Saturnalia or Dies Natalis Solis Invicti? Is it the worship of avaricious materialism or Santa? Actually, it is nothing.

Christmas without Christ is an empty shell of a holiday to a thinking adult. To a kid it’s great. I mean, presents are cool no matter why or where they come from. And the time off from school? Primo.

However, left to its consumer nature Christmas is meaningless. And the Left wants it that way. For if we celebrate the birth of the son of the Living God then we transcend the here and now and we acknowledge a force and good greater than anything we can possibly experience on this plane of existence. Which means that our rights as free people, just as the Founders said, are not merely tolerated by government by naturally given by God.

Once we accept that, that government is a clumsy function of man and thus is subject to his fallen nature, many things come into focus. The Left would prefer those clarities remain obscure, least we act on them.

Hence the war on Christmas and its traditional celebration across the land. If government and its denizens are paramount then there is no room for God and his son at an inn or anywhere else.

If the almighty state is worshipped as our best and brightest incarnation, then where do we go when the state is in the hands of the unjust and ignoble? Where do we go when the state is in the hands of the kind of people who drove the infant Jesus and his parents to Egypt? We don’t go anywhere. We stand and fight as free Americans who know what and whom to worship and who realize, as opposed to what the Left would have us do, that the object of our deep and abiding spiritual reverence should never be government, no matter which party or person is in the ascendant
