New reports are coming in alleging that White House senior advisor Ivanka Trump is considering a possible Senate run in Florida, which would likely be seen as a slap in the face to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who has been an ally to her father.

Rubio’s Senate seat, which he has held since 2011, will be on the ballot in the 2022 midterms, and one source said that this could explain why Ivanka is reportedly planning to settle in Florida with her husband Jared Kushner in the coming weeks.

“Ivanka definitely has political ambitions, no question about it,” the source told CNN. “She wants to run for something, but that still needs to be figured out.”

Putting down roots in Florida would be the first step for Ivanka securing this Senate seat.

“Assuming she’s not interested in a low-profile political office, that would leave the United States Senate as a possibility,” said Adam C. Smith, former Tampa Bay Times political editor and now consultant with Mercury Public Affairs.

“Marco Rubio is up for reelection in 2022 and is expected to run again,” he added. “But I wouldn’t think Rubio would deter her if she wanted to run. The last time Marco Rubio ran against a Trump in Florida, in the 2016 presidential primary, Rubio was crushed by 19 percentage points.”

Smith went on to say that he believes Ivanka’s chances of winning in Florida would be good, should she actually choose to run.

“Normally, you’d expect a credible candidate for US Senate to spend years building a political and financial network, but those normal rules would not apply to Ivanka,” he said. “I think she’d be the immediate frontrunner if she ran for US Senate against Rubio, given her father’s popularity in the Sunshine State.”

This comes after it was reported that Ivanka and her husband are in the final stages of buying a property on the exclusive enclave of Indian Creek Island, which has been nicknamed “billionaire bunker.”

“(Indian Creek Island) is one of Miami’s most private and sought after neighborhoods, frequented by high net-worth individuals seeking privacy,” said Dora Puig, who has sold more than $3 billion worth of real estate.

A source close to Ivanka would only say that people should not read too much into the home purchase, as she has been wanting to buy property in Florida for quite some time.
