Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has revealed that she and her radically liberal “Squad” have given Joe Biden a to-do list of things that they want to see him use executive orders to carry out.
Omar told NBC News that the “Squad” would like to see Biden sign executive orders to cancel student loan debt, declare climate change a national emergency, raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour for federal contractors, and much more. The list reportedly also included ideas from people outside the “Squad” as well, including Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
The Minnesota congresswoman said that she and her fellow radicals are tired of seeing Republicans in Congress foil their plans.
“We’ve all seen what it’s like trying to get meaningful legislation past Republicans in the Senate,” Omar said. “We know that there is a lot that can be done at the executive level.”
She added that she has met with Biden and his transition team, saying that she was “quite happy” to find that they were receptive to her ideas.
One of the demands that Omar made was that Biden forgive tens of thousands of dollars in loan debt per student. She also would like him to reinstate the “temporary protected status” for immigrants cut off by President Donald Trump.
The “Squad” is additionally pressuring Biden to put tougher COVID-19 workplace protections through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). On top of that, they not only want him to declare climate change to be a national emergency, they also would like him to create an office of climate mobilization to coordinate a governmentwide response.
Though Biden has voiced support for some of the things on this list, including forgiving some student loan debt and raising the minimum wage to $15, he has not said that he would use executive orders to carry them out.
Prior to the election, Omar and other members of the “Squad” made no secret of the fact that they saw Biden as someone who they could push further and further left. It seems that they are wasting no time in putting pressure on him to carry out their radical agenda.
