Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) spoke out over the weekend to slam lawmakers who have been getting the COVID-19 vaccines ahead of frontline workers and the elderly. Her comments came as a surprise to some given that her fellow “Squad” member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was one of the lawmakers to get vaccinated over the weekend.

“It would makes sense if it was age, but unfortunately it’s of importance and its shameful,” Omar wrote of why politicians are being given vaccines right now when others aren’t. “We are not more important then frontline workers, teachers etc. who are making sacrifices everyday. Which is why I won’t take it. People who need it most, should get it. Full stop.”

This tweet is in direct contrast to the attitude held by Omar’s friend, Ocasio-Cortez, who was quick to document her experience getting the vaccine on social media.

“If you have any questions or unease about the COVID vaccine, I got you!” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted alongside photos of herself getting the first dose of the. Pfizer vaccine. “I’d *never* ask you to do something I wasn’t willing to do myself. Yday per national security policy (PPD40), Congress began getting vaccinated. I took the jab & am here to answer your questions. Ask away!”

Ocasio-Cortez even directly addressed those who were questioning why she was being given the vaccine ahead of the elderly and frontline workers.

“I was actually surprised by this too — I was expecting that we were going to get it a lot later,” she said, going on to say that healthcare workers have begun receiving it, though “not everybody yet obviously has been vaccinated.”

“But when it comes to Congress’s access, it’s due to something known as ‘continuity of governance’ planning,” Ocasio-Cortez explained, according to People Magazine. “Basically, there are national security politics on the books to ensure continuity of governance during national emergencies.”

It seems there might be some trouble brewing in the radically liberal “Squad,” as we can’t imagine that Ocasio-Cortez will take very kindly to Omar’s comments about what she is doing.
