What Happened to Teaching Our Children the Golden Rule—In Words and Deeds?

Remember when most Americans, even non-religious, taught their children the Golden Rule? “Do to others what you would have them do to you….” It May seem corny, or naïve, but isn’t it also true? Isn’t this premise foundational for a peaceful culture? But what are radical leftists teaching their children by their words and deeds, especially this past year? If they’re treating others the way they’d like to be treated, then they are sadists.

With the holiday season upon us, I wondered more than usual what some kids are learning about how to treat others. I recall, before the far-left radicals took over the Democratic Party, when the Left and Right still had virtues in common. Most people on both sides enjoyed American traditions, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even with today’s political rancor, 93 percent of Americans say they celebrate Christmas.

When leftist radicals crack Trump supporters over the head for wearing MAGA hats, is that how he or she would like to be treated? When leftist rioters loot and then burn Target, Walmart, or the little mom & pop shop on the corner, is that how they’d like others to treat them? What is that behavior teaching their children?

How does the radical left justify their evil deeds? They conflate an American president with Hitler and pretend it’s 1930s – 40s Nazi Germany. Then they imply, what wouldn’t a person have done to stop such a tyrant? The obvious problem: their fantasy crashes into historical facts and truths. Think what you want about President Trump, but you’re an imbecile if you believe he is like Hitler or any other mass-murdering despot. And you insult the suffering European Jews went through when you make such comparisons and trivializations of the true horrors of the Holocaust.

But what have the Democrats, (and speaking of pretending) and “president-elect” Joe Biden done or not done to uphold the Golden Rule? They have never condemned the leftist radicals’ destruction and violence in any real way. In fact, Kamala Harris has facilitated it, contributing money to bail out rioters. The closest you can get Democrats to denounce the rioting is they say they condemn “all violence.” That’s too easy, folks. It’s obvious 99 percent of the violence and destruction is committed by leftist militants.

This year, using the CCP virus as an excuse, some states and cities run by Democrats have launched an all-out assault on the important American traditions mentioned above. And they’re doing it by exploiting Americans’ trust. First, they are manipulating a “pandemic” to allow the government to abridge the people’s constitutional rights. Second, they are marginalizing—demonizing—cops who are necessary to maintain a peaceful society. The Great Reset, right?

The truth will come out about the exploitative and unconstitutional nature of these CCP virus edicts. Just as we now know what FDR attempted during the Depression (among his political mischief, attempting to stack the Supreme Court). Some may never accept the Democrats manipulated a “health crisis” for political purposes. But this is so provable: it is blue state/city governors/mayors imposing the Draconian edicts, and red state/city governors/mayors are teaching kids about treating people as they’d like to be treated. Blue: Lockdown vs. Red: Liberty.

Blue: Cuomo, Whitmer, Murphy, Wolf, Newsom, Inslee, Brown, Lightfoot, etc.

Red: De-Santis, Noem, Burgum, Abbott, Edwards, Reeves, Hutchinson, Reynolds, etc.

How can the Democrats claim they are not politicizing a virus? A virus isn’t partisan. Politicians have to make it that way, which the Democrats are so ably demonstrating.

Let’s say, for the argument’s sake, we grant to the Left the singular danger they contend the CCP virus poses. Yes, this disease kills certain high-risk people, primarily the elderly with comorbidity factors. The Right agrees with this fact.

However, the Left does not apply the Golden Rule. Instead, when the Right cites reputable, peer-reviewed studies regarding lockdown dangers and mask efficacy, the Left mocks, condemns, or outright censors the information. However, just as it is a fact that sick, elderly folks die of the CCP virus, it is also a fact that people die because of lockdowns.

Steven Hayward, at PowerLineBlog, wrote about the “Unintended Consequences of the Lockdown.” Hayward:

From the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis…, government ‘experts’ have failed at the chief task of sound government, which isn’t to ‘solve problems,’ because most major problems can’t be solved. Instead, the real task of government is managing tradeoffs, adjusting multiple competing factors to arrive at better or worse relative outcomes. This is a task primarily for statesmen, not single-minded ‘experts’ in their silos, who will invariably get it wrong. By all means, listen to Anthony Fauci, but listen also to the other experts who point out the collateral negative effects of the lockdown.

I’m sure Hayward writes this because this is how he’d like to be treated by others. That the Left also considers his thoughtful opinions and presented facts.

Hayward also quotes from a Lancet article (not a bastion of right-wing reporting). After acknowledging the “increased mortality” of the CCP virus, Lancet wrote, “it [lockdowns] is also likely to increase mortality indirectly.”

The Lancet study reported the lockdowns’ effects on maternal and child health and deaths. They interpreted their data like this: “[T]hey show that, if routine health care is disrupted and access to food is decreased (as a result of unavoidable shocks, health system collapse, or intentional choices made in responding to the pandemic), the increase in child and maternal deaths will be devastating.”

People are also not going to preventative and necessary healthcare appointments, are abusing alcohol and other drugs to a greater degree, many leading to overdoses, and others are suffering from depression.

Children, who are not in great danger from the CCP virus, who depend on it are not getting meals at schools. Children are also not being seen by responsible mandatory reporters. If a child is not in school, teachers cannot report any observable or disclosed abuse.

So, as a culture, we all used to teach our children the Golden Rule, right? Not only in word, but also in deed. So, the Right acknowledges where there are legitimate arguments on the left. The Right does this and expects to be treated the same way. But the Left is not treating others as they’d like to be treated. Rather than respect others who have opposing valid facts and opinions, instead, they crush their free speech.

One thing all of this mayhem has made me more highly aware of is, I am an American. The pandemic hasn’t changed that. I still have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I still have all the rights guaranteed to me in the Bill of Rights.

I still possess the right to free speech, peaceably to assemble, to keep and bear arms, and to worship (or not). The government can infringe on these unalienable rights, but they don’t have the authority to take away what God has granted; they can only pretend to have that power through tyranny.
