Newsom To Choose Harris Successor

He could go a lot of ways on this.

California leftist Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom has an interesting choice to make in a replacement for Kamala Harris, as she becomes the decent interval heir to the presidency. He could even take the Senate seat himself.

FNC: “Do those interested in succeeding Vice President-elect and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., in the Senate go for it? How do they balance touting themselves for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity without appearing too pushy? Too ambitious? Too self-centered? This is always the conundrum when a plum opportunity presents itself in politics. And no matter who succeeds Harris, there are going to be a lot of disappointed politicians. That’s to say nothing of various interest groups and political factions who are pushing for one person or another. Or, one type of person or another.” The contenders?

Do you agree that protesting is acceptable, but rioting is not?

California Democrat Secretary of State Alex Padilla seems to be the current favorite to succeed Harris in the Senate. It’ll play to the 40 percent of the state population who are Latin.

Also factor in California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Rep. Karen Bass, D-CA,  Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Rep. Barbara Lee, D-CA, and Rep. Katie Porter, D-CA. Some fools have even suggested former Rep. Katie Hill, D-CA. Hill resigned after a sordid sex scandal involving a staffer. Thus, that dog won’t hunt. Other names in the running? Long Beach, CA, Mayor Robert Garcia, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

Newsom has to balance his state’s racist multiculty political scene, competing players, and his own political future. “I want to make sure it’s inclusive. I want to make sure that we are considerate of people’s points of view,” he said.

“Gavin Newsom has a lot of pressure from all kinds of constituencies,” said Loyola Marymount University professor Fernando Guerra. “In this process, he will make one friend. And many enemies.” Pick an Anglo and he’ll be told it’s racist. Pick a guy and he’s sexist. Choose himself and he’s a jerk to all except Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, who would replace him. But any storm would die down soon, such are the California media’s sensibilities hard wired to kowtow to Newsom.

“He was really hamstrung by Harris becoming vice president,” said one Democrat Congressional source of Newsom. “He wants to be president.” Har, har, har. “I don’t know why Gavin (Newsom) wouldn’t claim one of these two seats for himself,” said another Democratic congressional source. Indeed. Watch for it.
