President Donald Trump spoke out on Thursday to torch Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, saying that she “wants to be a dictator.”

Trump reacted to Whitmer extending her state’s lockdown emergency through October 27 by saying that Michigan and other states should “open up” despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They ought to open up the states,” Trump told Fox Business. “That’s the other thing with the Democrats — maybe more important — open up the states. We’re winning a lot of lawsuits about that. Michigan, she has to [it] open up. She wants to be a dictator in Michigan.”

Zeroing in on Whitmer, Trump claimed that “people can’t stand her” and that they “want to get back and want to get back to work.” He added that this mentality is actually helping his reelection efforts in the state.

“Michigan, we won. Pennsylvania, we won. … North Carolina’s moving along. They’ve got to open them up. They will open them up on Nov. 4,” Trump said. “They’re only doing it for politics. But the schools have to open. The businesses have to open. Despite that, we’ll have a great third quarter.”

This comes days after Whitmer blamed Trump in part for the kidnapping plot that was hatched against her by members of a Michigan militia. The FBI managed to foil this plot last week, arresting six militia members on October 8 for planning to kidnap and murder Whitmer because of her strict coronavirus lockdown measures.

“Just last week, the president of the United States stood before the American people and refused to condemn White supremacists and hate groups like these two Michigan militia groups,” Whitmer said after the arrests. “‘Stand back and stand by,’ he told them. … Hate groups heard the president’s words not as a rebuke but as a rallying cry, as a call to action.”

She went on to say that when “leaders meet with, encourage and fraternize with domestic terrorists, they legitimize their actions and they are complicit.”

As you can see, there is no love lost between Trump and Whitmer.
