Since the 2016 election, tech giants like Facebook and Twitter have been under criticism for their part in spreading fake news. With over two billion combined users, social media sites have been accused of news blackouts and tailoring stories to their audience. While denying the claims, both Twitter and Facebook were caught suppressing breaking news stories about the Hunter Biden email scandal on Wednesday.

For those unaware, a chain of emails was acquired by Fox News showing that Hunter Biden, with the help of his business partner, gave advice on how his influence in the Obama administration could stop “politically motivated attacks” towards Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings. The emails are part of a larger deal to have meetings between the firm and the state department within the administration. The evidence shows a clear violation of America’s trust and safety during the Obama presidency.

Shortly after the news broke, most people didn’t even hear about it thanks to a massive news blackout by Facebook and Twitter. Both companies suppressed the news to its users, allowing time for the Democrats to stage a defense. Luckily, President Trump took to Twitter to blow the whistle on the whole charade.

The President tweeted, “So terrible that Facebook and Twitter took down the story of “Smoking Gun” emails related to Sleepy Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in the [New York Post]. It is only the beginning for them. There is nothing worse than a corrupt politician. REPEAL SECTION 230!!!”

Trump wasn’t the only member of the Republican party to blow the whistle on the news suppression by the social media conglomerates as Ted Cruz not only tweeted but wrote a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. It said, “If these emails are authentic, they would demonstrate definitively that now-candidate Biden lied when he said in 2016 that he had ‘never spoken to [his] son about his overseas business dealings”.

With less than a month to go before America casts its ballot, the news that Joe Biden lied to the American people proves yet again that the Democrats don’t respect the voice of the people. At the end of the day, people are nothing more than votes to them. Any Democrat-run state is a prime example of what waits for America come election night if Biden wins.
