Hollywood star Rick Moranis of “Honey I Shrunk The Kids” fame was viciously assaulted in a random, unprovoked attack in New York City on Thursday.

Police told the New York Post that Moranis, 67, was walking south on Central Park West near West 70th Street, right by his apartment building, at around 7:30 a.m. when a stranger suddenly punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground. Law enforcement has confirmed that Moranis was in fact the victim.

Moranis was rushed to a local hospital to receive treatment for pain in his head, back and right hip. He then reported the incident to the police, who are still investigating. The suspect fled the scene on foot, and he remains at large at the time of this writing.

Moranis shot to fame in the 1980s by starring in movies like GhostbustersSpaceballs, and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. He has largely avoided the limelight since stepping away from his movie career in the 1990s.

Moranis has also dabbled in music, earning a Grammy nomination in 2005 for best comedy album for “The Agoraphobic Cowboy.”

“The music is pretty simple: It’s, you know, it’s country music,” Moranis said at the time. “There’s a couple of melodies that are OK, I guess.”

He released another comedy album in 2013 called “My Mother’s Brisket & Other Love Songs,” and he opened up that same year about how much he loves life alone.

“I don’t particularly like travel, and I do like home. I like to consume music alone and films alone. I read books alone. Why wouldn’t I consume other art alone?” he said.

“I always eat earlier than everyone, and I don’t like restaurants,” Moranis added. “By the time I take everything out of the food they serve, primarily the butter and the salt, it’s not very tasty. But I wasn’t always like this. I don’t recommend this as a lifestyle to a young person.”

Moranis is preparing to make a return to Hollywood, as he is set to reprise his role of Wayne Szalinski in the Disney movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel, simply called Shrunk.
