On Friday, it was announced that President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have tested positive for coronavirus. Afterwards, CNN host Don Lemon could not help but gloat over the fact that Trump had gotten the deadly virus.

While talking to veteran journalist journalist Carl Bernstein, Lemon said it’s Trump’s own fault that he got COVID-19.

“In large part, it’s his own dereliction [that] is partly to blame to this,” Lemon said, according to Newsweek.

“He chose to go out to rallies. He chose to down play masks. He chose to not social distance and called it a hoax and so on and so forth. But, you know, again, it’s horrible that the president has this,” Lemon added. “But he chose to handle the situation this way. People in the West Wing and the administration saying it’ frowned upon to wear a mask. Was this inevitable?”

Bernstein responded by saying that Trump’s own “recklessness” had contributed to the situation and that his diagnosis represented a national security crisis.

Later on, Lemon questioned whether this was a “moment of reckoning” for Trump.

[I]s this a moment of reckoning for the president and this administration?” Lemon said while speaking to CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta. “For all of the — all of the pretending or looking the other way and trying to convince people otherwise of the science, for whatever reason — whether it was for, to make sure that he was re-elected, to make sure that he had high standing with the public, or just to — for whatever reason. Because of the economy.

“Is this now a moment of reckoning that — yes, this is real. It is not a hoax,” Lemon added. “It doesn’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican. It is time to take this seriously, and all the preventative measures that the scientists, the doctors, like Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, have been touting for so long?”
