DC can breed a certain out of touch attitude where people start believing their own press releases. Political consultants are usually immune from that. But when some of them stop running campaigns and start running their mouths as television pundits, especially if they’re left wing pawns, they lose all sense of cynical perception and become the true believing gaga types they used to make fun of. Annnnd, welcome to the Lincoln Project.

These Vichy Republican former GOP operatives backed the wrong horse in 2016 and have been pathetically groveling to the Left for a paycheck ever since.

Now investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald is calling them out after some of them compared themselves to civil rights protesters in the 1960s. You know, people who were, back then, actually fighting for something noble. As opposed to the Lincoln Project, who are gutless Quislings fighting for crumbs leftover from a left wing table.

Lincoln Project collaborators Reed Galen, Steve Schmidt, and Rick Wilson said this in the Washington Post on Tuesday, “None of us can choose history. History chooses us. If you ever wondered what side of the Edmund Pettus Bridge you would have stood on, this is your chance to choose. Those who went before faced dogs and fire hoses, and yet they did not flinch.”

FNC: “They seemed to be referring to protests against systemic racism in Alabama, including an armed confrontation between state troopers and protesters on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. The event, in which police assaulted protesters with tear gas, bullwhips, and billy clubs, would be dubbed ‘Bloody Sunday.’ ”

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tweeted that portion of the Post op-ed, Greenwald responded with legitimately shocked ire. “[M]ulti-million-dollar-a-year cable hosts & Lincoln Project grifters are now comparing themselves to those beaten at Edmund Pettus Bridge because they’re opposing Trump, after years of equating themselves with the French #Resistance? Julian Assange is an actual dissident: one languishing in one of the west’s worst prisons because he exposed war crimes of the US & allies. That’s what is done to real dissidents as opposed to cosplaying Twitter grifters. Real dissidents aren’t found in MSNBC & CNN Green Rooms,” he said.

Okay, so Greenwald is a bit Bolshevik on the Assange thing, but he has a very good point here. What kind of delusional conceit does it take to compare yourself with men like Dr. King and Medgar Evers? They used peaceful demonstrations to lobby against real injustice in this country. Because of men like that America is a fairer and more equitable country. They are heroes because they held firm to their principles in the face of tremendous opposition. They did not cut and run, like the Lincoln Project, into the arms of the opposition at the slightest whiff of grapeshot.
