Two women have been hit with hate crime charges after attacking a seven-year-old supporter of President Donald Trump in front of the boy’s mother while outside the Democratic National Convention in Delaware.
After grabbing the “Make America Great Again” hat from the child, Olivia Winslow and Camryn Amy, both 21, were subsequently arrested. On Tuesday, they were indicted on felony charges including robbery, conspiracy and hate crimes, as well as a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Amy was hit with additional misdemeanor charges for assaulting a man who tried to recover the cap, trying to assault the boy’s mom, and offensive touching of the child, according to the New York Post.
The indictment states that the two women allegedly committed the crime “for the purpose of interfering with the victim’s free exercise or enjoyment of any right, privilege or immunity protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, or committed said crime because the victim had exercised or enjoyed said right or rights.”
Delaware Attorney General Kathleen Jennings, a Democrat who has taken part in many lawsuits against the Trump administration, spoke out to defend the charges against the women.
“Violence in any form is unacceptable, but harming another person – let alone a child – because of the expression of their views betrays the principles on which our country was founded,” Jennings said. “Free speech, free assembly, and free expression are sacred, no matter whether we agree with the opinions expressed, and especially when we don’t.”
The assault occurred on August 20 outside a restaurant at the Wilmington Riverfront. In a viral video of the incident, the two women can be seen damaging pro-Trump signs and taking the youngster’s MAGA hat.
“Get it, Liv, get it,” Amy tells Winslow, who tosses the hat after picking it up off the ground.
The boy chases the women, saying, “That’s somebody else’s hat,” before Amy once again throws it.
“Mom, call 911,” the boy exclaims.
Amy was later caught on camera punching a man who tried to get the hat back. The video ends with Amy confronting the woman who was shooting it.
The media loves to portray Trump supporters as violent and deranged hooligans, but this just served as a reminder that the real threat of physical violence almost always comes from members of the Left.
