During the first presidential debate on Tuesday night, Donald Trump accused 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden of calling his travel bans on China “xenophobic.”
While Biden shook his head in disagreement at Trump’s charges, it turns out the President was right.

Trump Calls Out Biden
Biden said in January that Trump’s travel ban on China to slow the spread of COVID-19 was “hysterical xenophobia.”
“I closed [the country], and you said, ‘He’s xenophobic. He’s a racist, and he’s xenophobic’ because you don’t think I should have closed our country,” Trump said Tuesday night.
“You didn’t think we should have closed our country because… you thought it was terrible. You wouldn’t have closed it for another two months. By my doing it for another two months, Dr. Fauci said, ‘President Trump saved thousands of lives,'” the President noted.
When Trump banned travel from China to the U.S. on January 31st, Biden referred to Trump’s action as “hysterical xenophobia.”
We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.

Trump Was Relentless During The Debate
Biden later backtracked and seemingly agreed with Trump’s travel restrictions, but not before basically accusing the President of racism earlier.
Tuesday night’s debate was fast and furious, with President Trump relentlessly pressing Biden on virtually everything he said, frequently frustrating Fox News moderator Chris Wallace, who struggled to maintain order.
Your reminder on that Jan. 31 when Pres. Trump suspended travel from China due to COVID… Joe Biden opposed the travel ban, saying: “This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria & xenophobia – hysterical xenophobia – & fearmongering to lead the way instead of science.”

Will This Issue Come Up Again In The Next Debate?
The coronavirus pandemic and Trump’s handling of the crisis received plenty of attention, with Biden accusing the President of dropping the ball – which is when Trump noted that the former vice president condemned the China travel ban.
Will this issue be revisited? Time will tell. But history shows President Trump unquestionably made the right decision.
The next presidential debate is scheduled for October 15th.
