Religious bigotry within the Democrat Party has been a constant fact. Many thought it was put to bed after the 1960 election of Catholic John Kennedy to the White House. But it is back in the form of Democrat attacks against Catholic Trump Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett. This is ironic, as the Democrat nominee, Joe Biden, is a Catholic.

This is not merely conjecture or second person data on the part of this analyst. In 2016 I attended a conservative Latin Rite Roman Catholic mass at a small church in Wilmington, Delaware. Joe Biden was also a regular attendee at this service. So for his campaign and its allies to be criticizing Barrett over her faith is yet again another hypocrisy from the Democrats. The Trump campaign is fighting back. Rudy Giuliani hit the bigots who are targeting Barrett.

Trump Campaign Deputy Manager Justin Clark said Sunday he is “really, really, really concerned” about Barrett’s confirmation battle on Capitol Hill,  slated to begin on Oct. 12. “Our faith as Catholics is under attack currently, and it is going to ramp up and get even worse.”

Clark said Trump’s nomination of Barrett to the Supreme Court was a “landmark nomination” for the country and the court.” It is a “seminal moment for the left to reimpose bigoted and unconstitutional religious tests on our nominees for high office…Religious bigotry against Catholics isn’t new in this country…the new radical left has embraced many of the hateful and destructive tendencies of anti-Catholicism of the past. A renewed anti-Catholic movement in this country has been growing for some time,” and it has “exploded onto the scene again.”

He is correct. An example was Senator Diane Feinstein, D-CA, and her attack on Amy Coney Barrett during Barrett’s previous judicial confirmation hearing, “Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that dogma and law are two different things, and I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different…And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you. And that’s of concern.” Can you imagine if she had treated a Jewish person or a Muslim that way? But for Democrats, a Catholic’s very faith is fair game.

Clark commented on Feinstein and Biden, “If this isn’t the imposition or application of some kind of religious test on people, I don’t know what is…Where is Joe Biden in all of this? Silent. He’s dead silent. Just like he was silent when his administration persecuted the Little Sisters of the Poor, or when his own vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris disqualified someone based on their membership to the Knights of Columbus…I am very concerned about where we’re headed down this road, where Democrats are headed down this road, and we’ve got to stop it because this is creeping back into our culture and our society and it is not okay.”

Even Nancy Pelosi thinks religious attacks are not kosher, “I think it’s appropriate for people to ask her about how faithful she would be to the Constitution of the United States, whatever her faith. It doesn’t matter what her faith is or what religion she believes in.”
